Production area
On the sunny slopes of Mazzon, above Egna, at an altitude of 400 m above sea level, facing south west, the Holzknecht family takes care of the vines at the "Trattmann" estate. The clay and lime soil is ideal for Pinot Nero, giving it a velvety softness and an elegant structure.
Vinification
After destemming and gentle pressing, the grapes are taken to the steel fermenting vats (100 hl), complete with pumpover system to increase the level of extraction from the grape skins. Maceration on the skins lasts 20-25 days. After fermentation (100% malolactic) the wine is matured for 15 months in a combination of French barrique and 12 hl oak cask. It is refined in the bottle for 7 months before it can be sold.
