Description

Product information "FASS NR. 9 Vernatsch - 2016"

Growing area

The grapes for this wine grow on the hillside vineyards in Oltradige, at an altitude of 400-500m on moraine soils of vulcanic porphyry. The microclimate and exposure of the slope guarantee optimum sunlight, and together with the average age of the vines of more than 30 years, result in an elegant, an particularly age-worthy Vernatsch.

Winemaking

The grapes are picked by hand and placed in small containers to prevent excess pressure on the grapes. Destemming and alcoholic fermentation take place in stainless steel tanks. It follows the malolatic fermentation and aging for 6 months in large wooden barrels.

Tasting notes & food matching

The delicate character of the grape varietal Vernatsch and the notable concentration of velvety tannins make this “Fass Nr. 9” a unique wine. Our selection of the best vineyards, as well as a restrictive limitation on quantity, gave “Fass Nr. 9” a pioneering role from the sixties - times without DOC regulations. It is an all-round red and particularly recommended with South Tyrolean dishes like dumplings, ravioli, roast meats, speck and cheese.

Production areaThe name "448 s.l.m." refers to the geographical positioning of the historical farmstead of Cantina Girlan, which is located at an altitude of 448 m above sea level. The Vernatsch grapes grow in several vineyards of our production area. Here, the soils are rich in minerals, the result of ice age sedimentation.WinemakingThe grapes are picked by hand and delivered in small containers to prevent excess pressure on the grapes. PATRICIA Pinot Noir
PATRICIA Pinot Noir

Growing area The grapes for this wine derive from our 3 Pinot Noir-growing sites, at an altitude between 380 and 530m. The soils are characterized, on one hand, by morainic deposits on volcanic porphyry rock in Oltradige, and on the other hand, by west-facing, loamy and calcareous soils on the Eastern hillsides of Bassa Atesina. Winemaking The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in small containers to prevent excess pressure on the grapes. After destemming, the must is filled by gravity into the steel tanks where the alcoholic fermentation takes place (18-20 days). After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in large wooden oak barrels (50 hl), and for further 6 months in the bottle. Tasting notes & food matching Ruby red color with intense aroma of sweet and sour cherry as well as raspberry. This wine shows a lively acidity-framework and convinces with a juicy finish. Thanks to its velvety structure, it delightfully accompanies first dishes of the Italian kitchen as well as a wide variety of meat dishes. PLATT&RIEGL Pinot Bianco
PLATT&RIEGL Pinot Bianco

Growing area For this wine we exclusively use selected grapes of 100% Pinot Bianco grown on the hillsides of Oltradige, at an altitude ranging from 450 to 550 m above sea level, in well aired vineyards. The particular combination of soils - from clayey limestone soils to volcanic porphyry soils - gives this wine its unique character. Winemaking The grapes are picked by hand and placed in small containers to prevent excess pressure on the grapes. Gentle whole cluster pressing and clarification of the must by natural sedimentation is followed. 40% of the must ferments at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, while 60% takes place in large oak barrels of 50 hl. A few of these oak barrels continue with the malolactic fermentation. The aging on the fine lees will take 7 months. Tasting notes & food matching Pinot Bianco has compact bunches of small greenish grapes. It is the most widely cultivated white grape variety for Cantina Girlan. Thanks to its delicate, fresh and at the same time, full flavour, the Platt&Riegl Pinot Bianco is the perfect wine for a wide variety of occasions: it delighfully accompanies antipasti, hors d’oeuvres and delicate fish dishes, but is also very popular as an aperitif.
