95+ Pts. | VIGNA GANGER MAZON Pinot Noir Riserva 2016
"The Girlan 2016 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Mazon Vigna
Ganger is a distinguished expression of the grape—and one of the best to come from Italy. This special wine
draws its fruit from a vineyard site that is a veritable garden of Pinot Noir, with steep diurnal temperature
shifts, a good elevation (at 370 meters above sea level) and loose limestone soils. This vintage and past vintages
teach us that Vigna Ganger does not specifically offer those typical wild berry and blue flower aromas you normally
get with the Burgundian grape. Instead, this interpretation veers toward dark plum, slate or granite. It shows a
synergistic use of oak spice and tar, and it has more structure, thanks to 20% stem inclusion during fermentation.
The palate delivers candied cherry, blood orange and pressed lilac. This wine needs more time to evolve in the
cellar. Production is a precious 2,700 bottles."
93 Pts. • TRATTMANN Pinot Noir Riserva 2017
"The Girlan 2017 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Trattmann is a lovely expression with a full load of berry fruit,
wild rose, candied orange peel and aniseed. The wine grows in intensity and focus as it opens and warms in the
glass, imparting some minty apple as it does. The close is spicy and fresh. This Riserva offers a firm backbone and
just enough structure to pair with a meat dish cooked with cream or butter. The fruit represents a blend from the
prized Mazzon vineyard (with chalky clay soils) and a site in Cornaiano with gravel soils. One adds to the mouthfeel
and the other the bouquet. Some 30,000 bottles were released."
92 Pts. • FLORA Sauvignon 2018
"The Girlan 2018 Alto Adige Sauvignon Flora opens to a tart, lemony or citrusy personality with peach, yellow
rose and tropical fruit. The style of this wine prizes mouthfeel and texture just as much as it does aromatic purity
and intensity. It offers a balanced approach to all the senses, and that unified front is ultimately the wine's
biggest selling point. Try it with a pairing of ceviche or grilled tuna steak. Production is 15,000 bottles."
91 Pts. • FLORA Chardonnay 2018
"Opening to a straw color with shiny golden highlights, the Girlan 2018 Alto Adige Chardonnay Flora is a
medium-bodied white wine. The bouquet is packed tight with poached pear, tropical fruit, cantaloupe melon and sweet
almond. The wine offers creaminess and some nice richness on the close, and I could see a pairing with spicy Indian
appetizers or Thai curries. Production is 13,000 bottles."
